# A Gong alternative that also covers email and Slack: replace Gong or connect it

> Get the full deal picture from calls, email and Slack, with CRM updates a rep approves. Day AI does it in place of your CRM or on top of Salesforce or HubSpot, with its own notetaker or with your Gong history connected.

Updated October 30, 2026

**The short answer.** The Gong alternative that covers email and Slack is a deal record built from every conversation (calls, email threads and Slack channels) with agents that turn it into CRM updates a rep approves. Day AI gives you that in place of your CRM or on top of Salesforce or HubSpot, with its own notetaker in place of Gong or with your Gong call history connected, so you can replace Gong or keep it.

Say you run revenue at an audit-software company with about 23 AEs on HubSpot, and it's 4:40 on a Wednesday. A discovery call has just ended. Your team used to run a home-built n8n workflow after calls like this one, and it only ever saw the single call, so now and then it put the update on the wrong deal. This time Day AI proposes MEDDPICC score updates using everything it knows about the deal, and it attaches the people from the call to the right deal. Your AE reads the proposal and approves it, and the scores land in HubSpot, on the right deal this time. Next quarter, when a new rep inherits the account, the deal already shows who is involved and where it stands, so the handover starts from the record.

**Where the usual answer goes wrong.** Most "Gong alternative" lists compare recorders: which one transcribes, scores calls and costs less. That comparison skips why you're looking: the deal doesn't live in the calls alone, and the pricing pushback is in an email thread and the champion's worry is in a shared Slack channel. The conversations are the record, all of them, and the job is to put them on the deal and let agents do the CRM work while people approve it. If you bought Gong because you wanted the customer's actual words, you were right, and those calls can stay in the picture.

## What Gong does well, and where Day AI fits

Gong is call recording and conversation intelligence, and it's good at it: as of October 2026, its [platform page](https://www.gong.io/platform/) also covers forecasting and coaching. Gong also captures more than calls: its help center lists voice calls, web conference meetings, emails, text messages and digital interactions as the data it imports ([Gong: What is data capture?](https://help.gong.io/docs/what-is-data-capture)). For email, Gong's setup guide says "Only external emails with contacts in your CRM are imported" ([Gong: Set up your Gong account](https://help.gong.io/docs/set-up-your-gong-account)). Its Slack integration works in the other direction: it sends notifications about Gong calls and call comments into Slack channels ([Gong Collective: Slack](https://collective.gong.io/integrations/slack.md)).

So the gap for the person paying for Gong and HubSpot is rarely the recording. It's the internal Slack thread where the deal team decided on a discount, the email chain that never touched a CRM contact, and the CRM fields nobody updated after any of it. Day AI treats Gong as a source rather than a rival: it can import Gong's history or replace the recording with its own notetaker, and either way it puts the calls next to email and Slack on each deal for agents to act on. Measured against the four-part checklist below, Gong covers the first part well for calls and customer email. Parts two to four, across Slack as well, are what the decision is really about, and they are where Day AI does the work.

## The full deal picture, with Day AI

The test for any replacement or add-on is whether it gives you the full deal picture. Use it as a four-part checklist, and check each part in Day AI before you decide anything about Gong:

1. **Every conversation is captured.** Calls, email threads and Slack channels all reach the record. In Day AI, calls come from its notetaker or from Gong, email from Gmail, and Slack from the channels you add Day AI to.
2. **Each conversation lands on the right deal.** A call, an email or a Slack message is linked to the people, companies and deals it's about. In Day AI, recordings are linked to the contacts and companies who took part, and agents attach new people to the right deal.
3. **Agents do the CRM work.** Field updates, stakeholders, next steps and follow-up drafts come from what was said, not from what a rep remembered to type. In Day AI, skills run when a meeting is recorded, when a new email or Slack conversation comes in, or when a deal changes stage.
4. **A person approves what matters.** Reps approve the changes that move the forecast, and every value can answer "why?" In Day AI, answers cite the call clip or the message they came from, every value shows its sources, and you can ask the agent what changed and why.
## How to get the full deal picture with Day AI

There are two routes, and both are in Day AI. **Replace:** Day AI's own notetaker records your meetings, and Gmail and Slack supply the rest. **Keep and connect:** your Gong account stays as it is, Day AI imports its call history, and Gmail and Slack join it. The steps below are the same for both except the first.

### Step 1: Choose the call source in Day AI: the notetaker or Gong

To replace Gong, connect your calendar and let Day AI's notetaker record your meetings. It writes each meeting into the customer record when the call ends, with the transcript and a summary.

To keep Gong, open your workspace settings in Day AI, go to the Integrations tab, find Gong and click Connect, then sign in to Gong and allow access. Day AI asks Gong for read-only access to call recordings, transcripts and media, and never changes anything in your Gong account. Your Gong call history comes in with transcripts, and the calls appear in Day AI's Meetings view next to any calls Day AI recorded, linked to the contacts and companies on each call. See [Day AI's Gong page](/gong) for the walkthrough.

### Step 2: Connect Gmail and Google Calendar to Day AI

Each rep connects Google Workspace (Gmail and Google Calendar). The first sync finishes within hours, and from then on agents work from that history.

Before anyone's mail is shared, each person sets their sharing rules in Day AI: share everything or nothing by default, with exceptions by domain, address or Gmail label. A private rule from any teammate keeps a message private, and one private message keeps its whole thread private. An agent inherits the permissions of the person it works for, so it sees only what that person can see.

### Step 3: Add Day AI to your deal Slack channels

In the same Integrations tab, click Connect Slack. Then add Day AI to your public channels from the list on that screen, and type `/invite @Day AI` in any private channel you want it to read. Day AI reads a channel from the moment it joins, so start with the channels where deals are discussed: the deal desk, shared channels with customers, and account channels.

### Step 4: Connect HubSpot or Salesforce to Day AI, or run Day AI as your CRM

If you run Day AI as your CRM, pipeline, contacts and companies stay current from your team's conversations and there's nothing else to connect. If you keep HubSpot or Salesforce, each person connects its MCP server with their own login, through an OAuth app your company registers. Day AI reads from the CRM, and when you allow the write tools it writes back to it, such as deal stages, notes and fields after a call. For each tool you choose Always allow, Needs approval or Off.

### Step 5: Turn on a deal-update skill in Day AI

In Day AI's Agent Studio, open the agent that works for the deal owner, click Create skill, describe the job (keep my deals current from calls, email and Slack), and set its Trigger: when a meeting is recorded, a new email or Slack conversation comes in, or a deal changes stage (you can limit it to the stages that matter). Each run reads the whole deal, the calls, the email threads and the Slack conversation, and proposes the updates: MEDDPICC scores, close date, next step, the new stakeholder and a follow-up draft.

Say the champion writes in your shared Slack channel that legal wants a security review before signing. The next run proposes a later close date, adds the security lead to the deal and drafts the follow-up, and the deal owner approves the close date in Slack.

Start the skill in learning mode if you want to see its work first: it reports what it would have done and asks for feedback before it's allowed to act. When it gets something wrong, reply to it and say what to change; the agent edits the skill, and later runs follow the change.

### Step 6: Decide what reps approve in Day AI

Set the guardrails per field. Let Day AI write the low-risk updates, like notes, next steps and tasks, and send forecast fields like stage, amount and close date to the deal owner for approval in Slack or email. Set hard stops where you want them, for example letting the agent move stages but never into closed-won or closed-lost. Every skill keeps a history of its runs, including whether each run delivered its result by email or Slack.

## Where the usual setup breaks, and what Day AI does instead

- **Slack stays outside the deal.** When a call recorder's Slack integration only posts call alerts into Slack, the discussion that follows a call, and the shared channel with the customer, stays off the deal. In Day AI, every channel Day AI has joined sits on the same record as the calls and email.
- **Scores and fields drift apart.** A call gets a good score in one tool while the close date in HubSpot stays wrong for weeks. In Day AI, a skill proposes the field changes after each call and the rep approves them in seconds.
- **Homemade glue sees one call at a time.** A workflow that pipes one transcript into the CRM can't see the email from yesterday or the Slack thread from this morning, so it guesses, and sometimes it picks the wrong deal. In Day AI, each update is proposed from the whole deal's context.
- **The second rep breaks the permissions.** Once a second person's inbox is in the pipeline, someone has to decide whose email each agent may read. In Day AI, each person sets their own sharing rules, and each agent sees only what its person can see.

## What Day AI adds

Day AI provides the context graph and agent control plane to quickly and securely upgrade your company brain. For a team on Gong and HubSpot, that means one place to ask about a deal and get an answer that cites the call clip, the email or the Slack message, whether the call was recorded by Day AI or by Gong. For the step-by-step on turning recordings into field updates, see [How to update your CRM automatically from call recordings](/guides/update-your-crm-from-call-recordings).

## Frequently asked questions

### What's a Gong alternative that also covers email and Slack?

Look for a system that puts calls, email threads and Slack conversations on the same deal, and then does the CRM work from all three: field updates, new contacts on the deal, follow-up drafts, each one approved by a rep. Call scoring alone leaves the email thread and the Slack channel out of the deal. Day AI covers all three: its notetaker or your connected Gong account supplies the calls, Gmail and Slack supply the rest, and agents propose the HubSpot or Salesforce updates for a rep to approve.

### Can I keep Gong and still get email and Slack into the deal picture?

Yes. Keep Gong for what it does well, such as coaching and conversation analytics, and connect it to a system that also reads your email and Slack. Day AI connects to Gong with read-only access, brings in your Gong call history with transcripts, and puts those calls on the same deals as the team's Gmail threads and the Slack channels Day AI has joined.

### Does Gong capture email?

Yes. As of October 2026, Gong's help center lists emails among the data it captures, alongside calls, web meetings, text messages and digital interactions, and says only external emails with contacts in your CRM are imported. Gong's Slack integration sends notifications about Gong calls and comments into Slack. If you want Slack conversations on the deal, and agents that act on all of it, Day AI reads the Slack channels you add it to and joins them to the calls and email on each deal.

### Can Day AI replace Gong?

For teams that bought Gong to capture calls and keep deals current, yes. Day AI's own notetaker records meetings and writes them into the customer record when they end, with transcripts, summaries and answers that cite the call clip. Teams that rely on Gong's coaching and forecasting can keep Gong and connect it to Day AI instead.

### Can Day AI update HubSpot from calls, email and Slack?

Yes. Connect the HubSpot MCP with your own login and allow its write tools, and a Day AI skill can propose deal updates when a meeting is recorded, a new email or Slack conversation comes in, or a deal changes stage. The rep approves the changes that matter, every value shows its sources, and you can ask the agent what changed and why.

### What is Day AI?

Day AI is the customer memory and agent platform for go-to-market teams. Even the best CRM only holds a fraction of what actually happened with your customers. Day AI is what comes after CRM. It builds a self-updating customer record from every meeting, email, and call, and runs governed agents that create finished work on top of it, with every fact and every action traced to source conversations. It does everything teams use a CRM for, without the data entry, and does what a CRM never could. Agents prospect, prep every meeting, draft follow-ups, keep the pipeline clean, and much more, giving every rep added selling capacity that used to require hiring additional people. It runs in place of Salesforce or HubSpot or as a layer on top of them.
